Lil’Camper

Lil’Camper
A couple of weeks ago I received an email from my step-mother Donna who wanted to take Livie camping over Labor Day weekend.  I was a little apprehensive to say the least, if any of you know us then you would know how afraid Livie is of my Dad.  My Dad has never done anything to Livie except love her to pieces but she is afraid of his beard.
I didn’t want to send her off with them and have her screaming and crying for me all weekend.  But I know in order for her to get to know how great they are and realize what she is missing I had to send her no matter how horrible I felt…this was going to be good for her.
So, I gave the ok for her to go but not before I brought up pictures on the computer of Dad and Donna and asked Livie where Papa and Gramma were and I had her give them kisses.  Livie seemed to be ok with the pictures on the computer and I only hoped that this idea was going to work.
When Friday came around and they arrived at our house everything seemed good.  Livie didn’t cry and the first thing she did was show gramma her new cowboy boots and play ball with papa. I couldn’t believe it, this might actually work out.  Now it seemed my only concern was how will I survive 4 days without her since the longest I’ve been away from her was only 1 night before then.
We put her in the truck and put on one of her favorite movies, Toy Story 2. I told her to be good for gramma and papa and she said “yes”, I told her to make sure she tells them when she has to go potty and she said “yes”.  Then I said good-bye and she was still ok with the whole situation; it was me who was sad. And then she was gone.
Livie came back on Monday and we were so excited to see her. Gramma and Papa said she was really well-behaved and she had a good time playing, dancing and hanging out at the bonfire.  This camping trip was a success and I couldn’t be happier that she wasn’t scared of my dad and his beard.
Livie’s next trip will be in 2 weeks when she visits Aunt Greta in Philly for 2 days and I know she’ll do great.
